这是HBO出品，由汤姆.汉克斯执导并解说的电视系列短剧，共分12集，每集约60分钟左右。《从地球到月球From the Earth to the Moon》一片是HBO著名的电视剧作品， 1999年在当年“艾美奖'获得的奖项有十七项之多，它也一样赢得了同年的金球奖。《从地球到月球》是根据历史真人真事改编的作品，它借用了著名科幻小说家、法国人儒勒·凡尔纳的纪实小说《A Man on the Moon站在月球上的人》的内容和素材改编而成。它全景式地描写和反映了围绕二十世纪人类最重要的科学活动——“登陆月球'所发生的种种事件，再现了这个人类历史上最伟大的探险壮举中的无数感人片断。为了能够真实地重现美国的月球计划，此片的每项涉及天文与航天科学的部分都是完全真实并经得起历史推敲的，此片的拍摄不仅得到了美国政府和国家航空航天局（NASA）的鼎力协助，而且很多装备和场景都是采用了本片的执行监制汤姆·汉克斯演出的奥斯卡提名影片《阿波罗13号》一片当中的设施。因为汉克斯本人一直为自己在《阿》片中的表现没有得到全面的认可感到有些失望，也对类似此片这样反映美国登月计划这一重要历史题材的影视作品情有独钟，意犹未尽，因此专门拍摄了《从》一片，把失败的“阿波罗13号行动'前后的所有故事全数搬上了荧屏，甚至媒体一直都把汉克斯的《阿》这部代表影片视为是《从》片的热身作品。但是和《兄弟连》一样，在《从地球到月球》一片中，汉克斯本人的主要角色还是担任执行制片而已，虽然他也像在监制《兄弟连》的时候一样导演了其中的一集。制片人当中还有大名鼎鼎的朗·霍华德（导演了去年的奥斯卡最佳影片《美丽心灵》），而在每个单元也有许多著名的导演或演员担任的导演或监制，如导演了《兄弟连》的TONY TO，奥斯卡得主莎莉·菲尔德等...它的阵容比起《兄弟连》还要鼎盛许多。上述除了莎莉·菲尔德导演了描写宇航员的家庭与妻子的故事的第11集外，在全剧十二集中还有如下的幕后大腕： 1）汤姆·汉克斯本人导演了第一集 2）导演了《兄弟连》第七、九集以及著名剧集《性感都市》的David Frankel 导演了第二、四、八集 3）监制过《天茧》、《火龙帝国》的Lili Fini Zanuck导演了第三集 4）撰写过《生死时速》、《断箭》、《夺金暴潮》、《火星任务》等名片剧本的Graham Yost导演了第五集 5）导演过《刚果惊魂》、《天劫余生》，监制了《灵异象限》的Frank Marshall导演了第六集 6）导演了《二见钟情》、《不一样的本能》、《本能反应》的Jon Turteltaub导演了第七集 7）导演了《惊唇劫》、《沉默生机》的Gary Fleder导演了第九集 8）导演了《福尔摩斯探案集》、《星舰迷航第七集》的David Carson 导演了第十集 9）导演了大名鼎鼎的《U-571》和正在执导《终结者3/T3》的 Janathan Mostow 导演了最后一集，也就是第十二集
